If they were going to build a McLaren F1 replica, they could have at least got the central driving position too.

Quote from Mackie The Staggie :What number did you race with (both sessions) I might have got one with you, but I think we where racing roughly at the same time so not sure.

4 in practise, 5 in the first race, 6 in the second.

Quote from PMD9409 :Anyone get any good info out of Vic?

Well there's a slim chance of getting some LFS branded bread sometime soon.

Quote from The Very End :I promiss to get more drunk next year and kick Bob's sorry arse.

More drunkeness would be good, but what's with all the Bob hating? It's only going to get more challenging if I keep up the weight training and you stay a skinny bitch.

Quote from Victor :even though it was almost noon by the time i left

I should have asked which way you were going and gotten you to wait five mins, instead of driving hard to catch you up. Could have had a bit more fun together on the twistier, roundabout punctuated roads then, rather than the boring M4 I eventually caught you up on.

Had another great time as usual, thanks to Jason once more for organising and hosting. Almost disappointed the night was a more quiet affair compared to last year, I guess I should have brought another spirit selection along, and somebody should have stopped Tor from falling asleep.

Also, did nobody catch a photo of me while driving? Only spotted myself in the background of one of peterule's photos. What happened to the photo's Dave took? Or have I missed a link somewhere?

It's an interesting demo concept (time limitation) but it's ridiculously short for this type of product. You need a week, not half an hour! Time to get a couple of friends going, hook up online, see if you can enjoy the racing.

@cargame.nl - I have heard that, yes. My housemate is Norweigan so she's keeping me up to date, since she's obviously concerned. She's moving back there in a couple of weeks, not the best of timing! Does mean she can get all the facts from her 'local' news sites.

Having now read this thread, I understand why the messages were reported. Suppose I should give them another look.

"How many dentists does it take to change a lightbulb? Three. One to administer the anaesthetic, one to extract the lightbulb, and one to offer the socket some vile pink mouthwash."

...56 translations later we get:

"Dental office Lighting. Anaesthesia and pink lips."

1) I can't imagine this working in any nice manner. Better to have a simple fully 3D driving model, IMO.

2) Surprisingly simple, if you wish. Totally depends if you want things to work the same as real life, or just kinda similar. The latter option opens up many more possibilities.

The Unreal engine comes with a super simple driving model, although I find the tyre model built in to PhysX (nxWheelShape) is pretty damn atrocious. I could write something simpler yet easier to drive.

Quote from thisnameistaken :Typical British beer is 3.5 - 4.5%.

From my own research into bottled ales, I have found they are typically in the 4.0 to 5.5% range (from sampling 121 different bottles).

And then compare with join date. Presumably the other, older account is licenced.

MIKE333ACE, we generally prefer that users post with their licenced account, if they have one.

Quote from bunder9999 :so what are you doing with yourself these days?

Taking it easy, going to the gym a lot, with the weather we have here today (sunshine! in Britain! can you believe it?!) I think I'll go to the beach. I keep meaning to start work on VHPA again, will no doubt start soon as I'm running out of other things to occupy my time.

Quote from bunder9999 :are you under NDA to not develop any car games for a while?

Nope, I have had interviews with Codemasters and Rockstar North but they both turned me down. Got another interview lined up, hoping I get third time lucky because no income is starting to make enjoying life tricky.

Quote from Uke :He has been working on Nr2011

While true, it's the same company, and thus I'm no longer working on any of their products.

Quote from MAGGOT :I was going to sign up until I saw "Console Quality Game Play." That's definitely not what I wanted to see..

I think that's because they think that console players think that free to download PC based titles are often amateurish in comparison to a triple A well polished titles, and this is to attract their interest. I'm not really sure that console players are really going to be the core audience, however, and not all PC gamers hold consoles in such high regard.

Quote from PMD9409 :Woah woah woah, hold the phone. We didn't get the memo. That was the main reason I signed up to begin with, what happened?

Blame NTG2011. Do a little thinking here. You all know the release date was pushed back. So you know the project over-ran. Time costs money. Combine that with a reception that was hardly universally positive, so it's not too far fetched to guess sales have not lived up to predictions. That means probably a lot less money in the company, and as such, cuts were made. I was one such cut.

This doesn't mean my influence is lost, unless somebody decides to undo all my fixes and improvements to the vehicle physics. The new tyre model I wrote that NTG2011 uses was originally made for ACR, and when I left there were definately no intentions of not using it. Richard Towler still works there and does all the vehicle set up, last I spoke he mentioned some issues regarding using accurately soft suspension that you would find on a road car, but I'm not giving tips on how to address such issues unless they want to re-employ me, in some form.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet, but just as important as throttling maximum upload rate, you should limit the maximum number of connections too. The way I see if, each connection gets an equal share of the network, so if your torrent client keeps 100 active connections, eah tab in your web browser is going to get less than 1% of the line.

Expected this long ago, tbh. The cost to run YouTube far exceeds advertising revenue, last I heard. Either they charge or it'll get closed down. We all like things for free but someone has to foot the bill.

No way a bicycle brakes harder than a car. Weight transfer limits braking force, all the available weight ends up on the front wheel, braking harder does work but is unsustainable because your rear wheel lifts off the ground.

Don't worry about the mass of the vehicle, or the size of the brakes. Both are entirely irrelevant. All other things being equal, a heavier vehicle will have a lower coefficient of friction, increasing stopping distance, but things are very much not equal. It's all down to tyres. Put super soft slicks on a truck and it would outbrake a sports car on a set of old economy tyres.

The size of the brakes only affects two things; 1) the amount of pressure you have to apply in order to generate the same braking force, so with smaller brakes, you just have to push/squeeze harder 2) how long you can brake for before the braking components overheat and become ineffective. This is why racing cars have larger brakes than road cars, despite weighing less. It's not because road car brakes can't stop a car as quickly as the tyres allow, they just can't do it over and over again.

Crashgate3 - stopping from 20mph in 4m requires a little over 1g of braking. I think your estimate is a bit off there. I'd guess it being at least double that.

Or you're simply too far away. I'm sat 18 inches from a 32" display; at 1366x768, these pixels look massive!

Larger screens sat further away achieve the same thing but are easier on the eyes and more people can watch. We're all used to being sat close to high def displays with our computers, why should changing the media suddenly make us change this?
